Each year, for one September weekend, Big Spring Mennonite Church, members, family and friends, meet at Highland Retreat.  We begin arriving and settling in early Friday evening. After an evening meal, retreat officially begins with gathering and evening prayers.

Saturday begins with morning prayers.  A breakfast of pancakes and eggs, prepared by the men, gets the congregation off to a good start. After breakfast we gather for sessions. This year we were led through “Spiritual Practices that renew the Spirit” by guest facilitators Jim and Angie Clemons.  After lunch, we spent time in “Silent Retreat” and gathered for prayers before dinner. The day was brought to a close with a songfest and evening prayers. With evening prayers over there was plenty of free time.

Sunday also begins with morning prayers while breakfast is being prepared. After Worship service we meet one last time for lunch. Then the hard part begins, cleaning up, repacking and saying our good byes.

This year brought something different. Our youth experienced their  own Retreat. They stayed in cabins. Summer Highland counselors were hired to oversee “Son Rock, Kids Camp”.
